Soldier Billy Pilgrim (Michael Sacks)'s grip on reality is less than sure, as he as apparently become "unstuck in time." Ever since he was present for the fire bombing of Dresden in World War II he has been experiencing the events of his life out of order, regardless of past, present, or future, or even geography, as at times he finds himself a one of the exhibits in an alien zoo on the planet Tralfamadore. There, he lives in a dome with former actress Montana Wildhack (Valerie Perrine) and the two of them are studied by the Tralfamadorans who are aware of all events that have happened, and ever will. At times Billy is back among his army company, including Edgar Derby (Eugene Roche) and Paul Lazzaro (Ron Leibman), prisoner to the Germans who have converted a slaughterhouse into a POW camp. Elsewhere he experiences peacetime, living with his wife Valencia (Holly Near) in New York, but he never knows from one moment to the next where, or when, he may end up.
