During a robbery Nick Bianco (Victor Mature) is caught, at which time he refuses to reveal the names of his accomplices to District Attorney Louis D’Angelo (Brian Donlevy). For his silence Nick assumes his wife and daughters will be taken care. After three years in jail, Nick is told by Nettie Cavallo (Coleen Gray) that his wife had been attacked by one of Nick’s partners and subsequently she committed suicide. With his daughters in an orphanage, Nick decides to cooperate with D’Angelo and informs on accomplice Earl Howser (Taylor Holmes). However, D’Angelo is more interested in gather information about murderer Tommy Udo (Richard Widmark). For his help in getting information about Udo, Nick is paroled, reunited with his daughters and marries Nettie to start a new life. But, when D’Angelo fails to get a conviction, Udo goes after Nick. Not wanting to wait, Nick sends his new family to safety and goes on the offensive, finding and confronting Udo both inside and outside Luigi’s Restaurant, which ends in a hail of gun fire as D’Angelo and Police arrive to apprehend Udo.
