One of the most chilling Cold War science fiction tales involved the case of a small boy named David Maclean (Jimmy Hunt) who has a middle-class life and parents in "Invaders from Mars." When he awakens one morning to see some kind of UFO burrow into the ground near the crest of a hill in the backyard, his father (Leif Erickson) believes him. Yet, upon inspecting the spot, the father is sucked into the ground and disappears. No one else believes the boy, and when his father returns, he is a different and cold man with a strange nodule in the back of his neck. He soon leads David’s mother (Hillary Brooke) to the same fate. She too seems to become a zombie upon return. The only person who believes David is a scientist neighbor (Arthur Franz). When David finally enters the tunnels made by the aliens, he discovers a tiny leader (with tentacle arms) of the Martians living in a fishbowl. With the intervention of the U. S. Army, things seem to come under control. Or, do they?
