Demanding a “Recount” is examined in regard to the 2000 presidential election in which Florida votes were miscounted, not counted, or ignored. The story concerns the campaigns and their attempts to control the recount of Gore and Bush votes in one swing state. Each candidate has his big guns come into the picture to control public relations and legal realities. Reagan Republican Ron Klein (Kevin Spacey) takes on Democrat Warren Christopher (John Hurt) in the argument about hanging chads. Secretary of Florida State Harris (Laura Dern), Bush’s campaign manager, has a controlling power to certify the votes. When the Gore people only challenge a handful of counties, the forces led by James Baker (Tom Wilkinson) take a lead, losing many Gore votes in the process. Later, the Unites State Supreme Court intervenes in the vote count, leading to the inevitable declaration that George Bush should be the next president.
