Bart Tare (John Dall) is fascinated by guns and likes to be alone. He goes to a carnival and finds a sharpshooter named Annie Laurie Starr (Peggy Cummins). He joins the carnival. Their relationship causes them to lose their jobs, so they take off together. They end up broke in Las Vegas. This does not satisfy Annie, who wants excitement and fine things in life. They begin a life of crime to get money. They decide to go to Mexico to live but must complete one last robbery. But this all goes horribly wrong, and they might not be able to live up to their desire to never kill anyone.
