Telling eight interconnected dreams is a man who calls himself “I” (Akira Terao). The dreams encompass various times and places in his life. As a small boy (Mitsunori Isaki), he watches foxes parading, or a Van Gogh (Martin Scorsese) scene of crows in a field. His mother (Mitsuko Baisho) feels this is a bad omen and sends the boy to apologize to the foxes. Later the boy wanders after a girl in a beautiful orchard that his family has not cared for properly. Ghosts and spirits seem to be everywhere as he grows up into an adult, often having sympathy for him. Yet, the world grows more filled with mutations of human life, and only when the adult sees an entire village in harmony are the dreams over.
